Hi Bob; I am not an expert on anything, but "linkage" to me sounds the same as leverage. Simply stated, the longer the lever the less force required, or the shorter the lever the more force required. If your new linkage configuration produces a shorter leverage than before, then you will need to exert more force to obtain the same effect. Hope this helps, Frank M.
